- Toronto, Ontario--08 NOV 91: SoftArc Inc. today announced availability of
- Release 1.6 of FirstClass, their popular Electronic Mail, Conferencing, and
- Bulletin Board System.
-
- The FirstClass system offers a completely graphical user interface which
- conforms fully to Macintosh guidelines and will run on any Macintosh with one
- Megabyte of memory or more. The user interface is public domain, and may be
- freely distributed. The FirstClass server will run on any Macintosh and will
- support up to 48 concurrent users when run on larger machines.
-
- Release 1.6 has numerous new features, including multi-user real-time chat,
- message history tracking, electronic forms, improved user preferences, and
- system monitoring tools. By incorporating both E-Mail and Conferencing,
- FirstClass combines the strengths of both traditional E-Mail systems and of
- newer Conferencing systems into one consistent package.
-
- One of the key features of FirstClass is its ability to support access to both
- E-Mail and Conferencing via Local Area Network (LAN) and modem. This means that
- companies may install a single system to integrate LAN E-Mail with a Bulletin
- Board that users connect to via modem. This is ideal for customer support
- systems, typesetting bureaus, school boards, and any other sites where users
- must access E-Mail systems from remote locations. Novice users will find the
- FirstClass User Interface easy-to-use and intuitive.
-
- In addition, Release 1.6 of FirstClass has improved multi-lingual support, and
- localized versions of FirstClass Release 1.6 will soon be available for Japan
- and several European countries.
-
- Users with non-Macintosh computers may use any VT-100 or ANSI compatible
- terminal emulator to access FirstClass, if the server has the Command Line User
- Interface installed, a $295.00 option.
-
- Release 1.6 also offers new, lower pricing. The pricing structure has two
- classes of users: Regular users may access the system via either LAN or modem,
- and are available in packs ranging from a 5 user pack (at $295.00) to a 100
- user pack (at $2495.00). In addition, Release 1.6 also provides for Telecom
- Only users, who may only access the system via modem. Prices for Telecom Only
- users are significantly lower, ranging from a 100 user pack (at $295.00) to a
- 1000 user pack (at $1395.00). Telecom User packs are ideal for sites that
- require large number of occasional users, common in applications such as
- typesetting houses, customer support systems, and bulletin boards. Special user
- group pricing is also available.
